REID AND GRAY'S DIGGING PLOUGH.

TO THE EDITOR. Sik,—At the request of a number of farmers present at the trial on Thursday last, Messrs Reid and Gray's improved digging plough was put to work on the lea paddock belonging to Allan M'Lean, Esq., near the Waihao beach, where this firm gave a trial in the previous week. The Howard plough being on the ground, it was thought by those present to be a good opportunity to show the work done by each plough on the same ground. The work done by the Reid and Gray plough at the first trial on the previous week was alongside that done by the Howard plough in both the turnip and lea paddocks on Thursday last, and the opinion of those then present was that the work done by the colonial implement was vastly superior to that done by the Howard. In the lea paddock the Reid and Gray implement completely deposited the thick matting of coucli grass in the bottom of the furrow and pulverised the soil thoroughly, while the other plough merely turned the furrow on edge, and the couch grass was seen nearly the whole length of the plot.—l am, etc., Settler.
