The Wanaka, with the inward San Francisco mail, is expected to reach here to morrow forenoon, and the aouthern portion will be despatched by the Rotomahana, leaving for Lyttelton at 3 p.m. Mr Miller, secretary of the Maritime Council, and Mr Lomas, president of the Amalgamated Miners' and Laborers' Association, waited upon the Premier and Minister for Public Works yesterday, and discussed.the labor difficulty in connection with the Cape Foulwlnd quarries. The Premier promised to give his answer nest week. The deputation also asked that the Government wonld hasten the progress of the several labur Bills now before Parliament, The Premier undertook to do .so, and intimated that there would be no difficulty in getting the measures passed so long aB the members of the House were sincere in their professions of regard for .the welfare of the working classes. Turnbull, M.H.R., took place this afternoon, the weather being fine there was a large attendance, nearly 500 persons walking two and two, and about 40 vehicles. Mr Wray, R.M., represented the Cabinet. The Borough Council, Friendly Societies, Fire Brigade, and Garrison Band took part. The delay of the steamer upset the first arrangements, and prevented the hour of the ceremony being known in the country, or the attendance would have been larger.
