A SUGGESTIVE DISCOVERY.

(by telegraph.) Reefton, December 4. A somewhat suggestive discovery has ! just been made by the police. A young man named James Alien, long employed on this field a3 battery hand, was arrested at Greymonth this morning on suspicion of having in his possession, unlawfully, a considerable quantity of retorted gold. The police applied to the bank in Greymouth, and obtained 80oz of retorted gold alleged to have been lodged by Allen. The gold was ju3t on the point of being melted by the Bank for Allen who with a man named August was en route for the Danadin Exhibition. Allen was employed at the Sir Francis Drake battery, the poorness cf the returns from which rather puzzled the directors for some time past. Allen is to be brought to Reefton and there charged.
