Thomas, the defaulting teller of the Bank of New Zealand was charged before the Court to-day with embezzling the funds of tbe bank, and ploaded guilty electing to be dealt with summarily, and the counsel for the bank having intimated that the prisoner had made the fullest reparation in his power, he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. The Sydney Morning Herald of this morning, In referring to the light sentence passed on the defaulting cashier, Thomas, of the Bank of New Zaaland, condemns the method in which he was dealt with by the Magistrate, and considers it will create an nneaßy feeling that the cause of juet?o3 has suffered. It oonclades that though reparation made to the Bink may be satisfactory to them it connot satisfy the requirements of jastice.
