AN EXTRAORDINARY OCCURRENCE.

(BY TELEGRAPH.) New Plymouth, September 4. An extraordinary occurrencj is reported in connection with the death of Captain Bayley, who was drowned at Wellington Heads on Thursday last.- The body reached Waitan by train from Wellington laat evening at 5 p.m., and was taken to deceased's residence. Father C uisidy, Sir Dickey (schoolmaster), and some others were present on its arrival, and it was decided to open the coffin which w*s closed in a hermetically sealed esse. Whsn the outer case was opened Mr Dickey looked through the glass in the coffin lid, and uttered an exclamation of horror. Father Casssidy also looked,, and he states that he saw the eyes of the deceased open and shut several times. Mr Dickey also declares that he saw the eyes open and shut. The coffin was at once opened, and the body was taken out and attempts made to reanimate by every means. Meantime Dr Blander was sent for, bat being away from home his aid could not be procured for several hours later. The means for reanimation were kept up for over an hour, bat without success, and when Dr Blunder arrived he prooounced life to bo extinct, although he admitted the body had an unusnally lifelike appearance, especially considering that deceased had been drowned five days previously. Deceased was buried this afternoon, at Waitara, with Masonic honors.
