(REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.) ' Received December 30, at 1.30 a.m. Adelaide, December 29. Sir Rjbert Dalrymple Boss, K. 8., late Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, was accorded a public funeral to-day. The cortege started from the House of Parliament, the procession including His Excellency Sir William Robinson, the officials and members of both Houses of the Legislature, aldermen and councillors of the city of Adelaide, and representatives from the various public bodies. The service was conducted by Bishop Kennion. Flags were hoisted at half-mast, and the shops along the route were closed. All Government offices were olosed to-day out of respect for the deceased. I Melbourne, Deoember 29. Mr John Anderson, general traffic manager for the Victorian Railways, died to-day. Thej;robbery "of cancelled bank notes from the Bank of Australasia is still unexplained, no clue having been obtained as to the'perpetrator of the theft. Up to the present, 'eleven one pound noteß have been detected in circulation insnfficiently defaced. The number of notes missing is still unascertained. ■ (special to press association.) Received December 29, at 5.20 p.m. London, December 28. The P. and 0. Company are building two steamers at Greenock for the Australian trade. Signor Brattino, Italian Minister for War, has asked the Chamber of Deputies to vote 60,000,000 franc] for armaments. Received December 30, at 1.50 a.m. London, Deoember 29. The Royal Humane Society have awarded a medal to George Deer, one of the crew of H.M.S. Nelson, for his gallantry in trying to save the life of Major Robllliard when one of the boats belonging to the Nelson capßizad in a squall. Mr Gladstone, in his speech at Dover, strongly opposed protection, which, he thought, had died out 20 yearß ago, and he complained of the Marquis of Salisbury's ambiguous remarks on the question. Referring to the disturbed state of Europe, he trusted that England would abstain from interfering in any European quarrel. The copper syndicate in France is being bitterly opposed, and it has been suggested that the Government should proßeoute the members of the syndicate for Illegally conspiring. Received December 30, at 2 p.m. Sydney, December 30. A number of nominations to the Legislative Council have been made by the Government, including Sir William Manning (ex-Judge) and several ex-members of the Assembly. The programme for the week's festivities in celebration of the centenary of the colony extends from January 23rd to the 31b4. The weather still continues wet. Melbourne, December 30. As already stated, the proceedings of the Federal Council of Anstralasia, at their next meeting at Hobart, will be chiefly of a formal character. It is intended, however, to pass a measure for amending the Imperial Aot, so as to meet the objections raised by New South Wales to the constitution of the Federal Council. It is not proposed to legislate upon intercolonial matters. The revenue of Viotoria for the half year is expected to show an increase of about L 220,000 over the returns for the [ corresponding period of last year.
