STUD NOTICES. To travel.this season la Oamaru and Surrounding Dlstriots, the THOROUGHBRED STALLION HAN CELLO R Vj Chancellor is a beautiful dark brown, standing fully 16 hands in height, with rare boce and splendid action, with a very qniot temper and is admitted by competent judges to be one of the handsomest horses erer bred in the colony. Chancellor was bred in 1874, and is by Tradncer. out of Sweetbriar (see New Zealand Stud Book), and as a racehorse has had very few equals, his performances being somewhat wonderfnl, winning under heavy weights and at all distances. The following are a few of his various performances : Won Dunedin President's Handicap 80 sovs; Grand Stand Handicapso sovs; Palmerston Cubßo sovs, Handicap 40 sovs; Lawrence Handicap 55 sovs; Taieri Handicap 50 sovs; Duntroon Handioap 100 sovs, Champagne Stakes 70 sova; ABh burton Cnp 70 sovs, R. G. Handicap 50 sovs; Flying Handicap, Dunedin, 100 sovs; Rangiora Cap 60 sovs. Beacon's Sporting Notes in Otago Witness says: In 1879-80 we fiud Chancellor still hard at it for he ran 23 times, and was victorious on six occasions. The first of these was his memorable sucoess in the Canterbury J. C. Handicap, of 600 sovs, in whioh, curiously enongh, he and Maritaoa again singled themselves out from tho field, and had a desperate finish—Chanoellor, however, on this ocoasion turning the tables on the mare. At Duuodin Spring he won the Ladieß* Parse of 30 sovs; at Inveroargill he won the Cup of 100 sovs, Publicans' Handicap of 30 sovs, and J. C. Handioap of 75 sovs; at Oamara he won the Autumn Handicap of 50 sovs. His winnings foe .the season amounted to L 1020.. Constant work now told its tale, and Chanoellor was daring 1880-81 absent from the convinoing ground, but in 1881-82 he figured 18 times, and wm successful in five races, At Canterbury Spring he won the Metropolitan Handicap of 150 sovs; at'Dunedin Spring, the St, Andrew's Handioip of 100 sovs; at Oamara Spring, ths Oamara Handicap of 100 sovs; at Dunedin Autnmn, the Flying Handioap of 80 sovs; at Oamara Antamn, the Consolation Stakes of 20 sovs. To sam ap Chancellor's career, he has ran in 87 races, won 26, and secured in stakes £2610. This reoerd is an exceedingly good one, and proves the stamina and pluck whioh he must possess, and these are just the qualities whioh are so desirable in a stud horse. (See Witness, Sept., 30, 1882.
