(per press association.) TAURANGA. April 4. There are seven candidates likely to contest the parliamentary seat vacated by the Hon. Captain Morris, viz., Messrs J. Sheehan, M. M'Cosh, Clark, M. Kelly, J. N. Speisht, ex-Judge Fonton, Major Swintly, and Captain R. 0. Turner. Messrß Shcahan and Kelly have deo'ared themselves. Mr Speight is reported to be the temperance candidate. CARTERTON. April 4. At about half-past 12 o'clock on Thursday night one of the large produce stores en" the Pcntoral Society's ground was discovered to be on fire. A strong breeze was "blowing at the time and the building was soon consumed. After the alarm was raised, a Scandinavian wrs seen coming from the fire and wn arrested. The prisoner states that he wri shown there to sleep by the landlord of the White Hart, and the fire awoke him but he endeavored to beat it out, but the fire gained, he then wont to look for water and d'Bcovered his clothes on fire and was proceeding to give the alarm, when he was arrested. The building was insured for LSO.
