TO STAND THI SEASON, At Elderslie, and trave the surrounding Districts, THE THOROUGH-BRED IMPORTED H RSE O T S P U R , HOTSPUR was bred by Mr, Ryan in South Australia, and is seven years old, Sire, Honestich (imported); Dam, Ranee, dain of the Prophet and Leo (winner of tho Launceston Cup), and dam of Red Rover, winner, of the Ballaratt Hurdle Race, Ranee by Ringer (imported), out of Mercy, by Croupier (imported), by Touchstone. Honestich by Young Dutchman, out of All's Well, by the Physician, out of by Mullatto, &c. Young Dutchman by Flying Dutchman, winner of Derby and Two Thousand, out of Decoy. For further particulars, vide Australian Stud Book. Hotspur is a dark brown horse, standing 16 hands 1 inch, with immense bone and muscle. He is a great jumper, and was a first-class performer on the Australian turf. Among other events, he won . the Maiden Plate at Murchison, Murchison Handicap, Epsom Handicap at Sandhurst, Corinthian Flat Race, of 160 bovs,. at. Flemington, Flying Handicap atKyneton, and Kynetoa Handicap. He is thoroughly sonnd and has a grand temper, and is a sure foal-getter. Terms, £5 ss, payable, at Ist January, 1882. Sorcereb is a beautiful rich dark brown Stallion, standing 16-2 hands high, possessing immense bone and substance, splendid action, and a remarkable good temper, and is a sure foal getter. He has taken several prizes at the principal exhibitions in Canterbury; Bred in Canterbury by Mr. Nosworthy Got by Traducer (imported); bis dam Azucena by Towton (imported) out of Meg Merrilies by St. George out of Gipsy—the g d of Gitana ; St. George by St. George (imported) out of Lady Ann by Whisker (imported); Lady Ann, dam of Spray. Spray was pronounced one of the best brood mares ever brought to New Zealand, and ia one of the progenitors turf. Marchioness, an own sister to Towton, won the Oaks; and The Marqnis a son of Cinizelli, won the Two Thousand Guinea Stakes; won the Great St. Leger, and lost the Derby by a head, for which he was first favorite. Towton was the sire of Golden Cloud, Musician, Misfortune, Tambourini, Kauri, and the Ph©b« Colt, and many other good horses tue numerous to mention. Phoebe Colt beat the renowned Templeton at weight for age. Towton was one of the few of old MeU bourne's sons; and his dam being a Touch* stone mare, the pedigree is one that unprejudiced breeding students admire. ' It will be seen that Sorcerer combines ike most fashionable and purest strain of racing, weight-carrying, and staying blood qualities, which should be the object of every breeder to perpetuate of any horse that has ever stood in the Province. Review of the past racing season, from the Danedin Evening Star : again to be credited with being by far the largest,winning sire, for twenty-two of hifl stock have won no less than £9880; add to this sum the amount won by smaller winnere among his stock, and also those won by" other horses got by him, but whose breeding has not been given in the reports of races, there can be no doubt that this now defunct sire is to be credited with £11,500 for the past season.
