WESLEYAN HOME MISSION.
A public meeting in behalf of the funds of the above mission was held in Wesley Church last evening,, a,nd was fairly attended. In the absence of the pastor (the £Uv. JE. Crump), who \va.S engaged | dawn south, Mr. C.uunwy&swie ocoupied ; the chair. Ths ministers present were the Bjevs, O. E. parley, E. Best (Trinity : Chuych, B.unedin), ajid B. Vanes (Waijkouaiti), the two latter gentlemen forming j the deputation from the New Zealand j Conference. The singing was led by the choir, and, as usual, Miss Crump presided at the harmonium. The meeting having been duly opened, with singing and prayer, The o),>,airn>an read the following abstract of the report of the mission for 1187-9; EXPENDITURE. £ 8. d. Then followed addresses by the Revs. Messrs. Yanes, Barley, and Best, each of whom spoke in support of the mission, and in proof °f the value of the work already accomplished. During the speeohes the deticiency of LIOO was referred- to, and the speakers attributed the balance to the wrong side to the general commercial' depression. Mr. Best created loud laughter by saying that the country, Church and State, was thoroughly familiarised with debt, and LIQQ of indebtedness was a mere trifle. Still he did not like it, but felt confident that the money i might soon be oollected in Oamaru by ten earnest lady«collectors. During the meeting a collection was made in aid of the Mission Fund, the amount realised being L2 9s Gd. Several hymna were sung, and the meeting terminated with the Benediction.
