LIVINGSTONE.
(from our own correspondent.) Livingstone, August 18. The weather for the time of the year continues exceptionally fine, indeed it may almost be said that wo have had no winter. So little snow lies on the mountains that those who are given to forethought anticipate a scarcity of water for sluicing in the spring. Several of our miners, chiefly those recently arrived hero have left to try one or other of tho now rushes, I hear of some bound for tho Seventeen Mile Beach, others to Lake Hawea, and again others to Mount Misery (the latter I take to bo the moat couragoug of the lot). I presume in all these caso& distance lends enchantmet to tho view. I trust their arrival at their several destinations will not, as is frequently tho case increase the number of the disappointed' | It is now nearly three months since tho, ; foot-bridgo across £he Maerewhenua River below the township, was carried away by a flood, and still, as far as appearances go nothing has been done towards rebuilding Seeing that the only substitute for a bridge or ferry for crossing tho river is a pair of gum boots, I think it would have, been much more creditable to tho countyauthorities had they displayed a little, more energy, especially as a want of funds is not the hindrance. The recent murder of Mrs. Young, at Kyeburn, cast quite a gloom over this place, as she had long been intimately known to many of the residents here. It has also created a feeling of insecurity with some who reside in isolated situations. We were honored on Sunday by a visifc from the Rev. Mr. Cameron, from Wj»areka. A good number were in attendance. The rev. gentleman chose for his. text. 1 Timothy, i., 14, on which he delivered an excellent discourse. His remarks om the lesson were both pithy and highly interesting. Mr. Cameron concluded a most enjoyable service by informing his hearers that the Presbytery had made arrangements for a quarterly visit by one! of its members until a minister was aviulable to take charge of the district.
