MR. PYKE ON THE WAR PATH, AND FRIGHT OF THE MINISTRY.

(by telegraph.) (from our own correspondent.) Wellington, August 18. Mr. Pyke gave notice of a motion this afternoon, based upon the following telegram : —"Railway from Oxford to Malvern will not pay for greasing wheels. It is a perfect waste of money, and is only committing the Colony to make the line from Oxford to Temuka. A. most reckless undertaking, and lins not wanted ; but it goes through Hall's and Wright's estates. (Vide map), These sufficient to put you on the soent. Private and confidential.—. Munkguam Doornis. " Mr. Hall said there was not a word of truth in the statements, Mr. Pyke rose to reply amidst signs of the dissatisfaction from the Government side. He claimed the right to speak, seeing that the Premier had been allowed to do so. He proceeded to read the telegram given above, asserting that it was signed by a gentleman well known and respected. Then were raised cries or\ Government side of " Name." The Speaker ruled that Mr. Pyke could not be allowed to, read anonymous communications. Mr. Pyke said he would read the telegram and hand it to the clerk.

Mr. Hall said it would fee unsatisfactorv unless it was read m the House. " Mr. Pyke said he intended that it should be read by the Clerk. Mr. Hall concluded by designating it ft gross slander. 8
