THE LATE FATAL MINING ACCIDENT AT KUMARA.
(by telegraph.) Kxtmara, July 17. An inquest on the body of John Phelan was commenced this morning at 1Q o'clock and terminated at noon, when the following yerdict wass returned: —"That the deceased, John Phelan, came by his death by accident, and that he was suffocated by the falling of earth in a sludge channel, and that the accident was caused by the giving way of the false set of timber in the face of the drive." To this verdict; the jury added the fallowing rider: —"We are of opinion that short sets are qaelpqg, and we recommend the uses of an intermediate set at every third set, and that sets should go {across the! drives, and also that the legs be 12in. by Bin,"
