DECLARATION of War between England and Russia, and immediate advance of a few millions of the enemy's soldiers on the Australian Colonies. Prince Soupsickoff, with an army of 500,000 men (more or less), has been ordered to sail for New Zealand (on rafts.) General Tinpotsky, with 50,000 men, has been detached, with imperative instructions, to pay particular attention to this portion of the colony, as the Czar's Generals are advised that it is from this quarter the most desperate defence may be expected, in consequence of the well-tried prowess of our local forces, whose warlike fame has long since reached Russia's distant shores. Tinpotsky's corps, when landed, will, by forced marches, rapidly advance on the left half-centre (in some if not many or all directions, which is much more likely than - otherwise). The imminence of the danger will, therefore, be readily understood, and that our Government fully realise the gravity of affairs from their having at once ordered every man (to a boy) under arms, even every cadet under ten years of age, capable of being borne in arms, must be ready for the trumpet's blast (unless able to produce a medical certificate that he Is suffering from a measle). 120 rounds of grape shot are to be issued to every citizen, and our Dunedin, Oamaru, and Otepopo Volunteers, irrespective of age, sex, political or religious persuasion, have taken the oath (hot, with sugar in it) that at their country's call they are ready to lay down the lives (of everyone of their wives, or intended wives' relations) before they will allow the Muscovite to seize a bushel of oats or a single ticket in Hay's Art Union (unless paid for at current prices). Our cadets, it has been decided, shall be armed to the teeth with three rounds of (blank) cartridge, and pouche3 full of (sugar) balls. All honor to our young braves. Doubtless the enemy will advance by a series of retrograde movements from the right, left, centre, and other flanks, and may therefore be expected to reach our shores about Christmas, but long before that time Hay's Art Union Prizes will have been drawn, distributed, and placed in. safety from the enemy. The drawing for prizes will take place June 21st, at 8 p.m., Thames-street, Oamaru. Country . agents please accept this notic.;—That all returns must be sent in by the 18th inst. at latest. Neglect of this wili necessitate the postponement of the Prize Drawing, and entail on me considerable loss, and on the public disappointment and inconvenience. * W. E. HAY.
