Dr. Wallis is certainly an eccentric ;politician. His-latest piece of eccentricity was : the.announcement which, he made yestepday of his intention to move an amendment iin the Regulation of Elections Bill for extending the franchise to women. We are* afraid the rev. doctor is a practical joker. His speeches generally are mirth-provoking, the drollery of them being greatly enhanced bythe solemn pulpit-like manner in which they are delivered, while his strange crotchets and peculiar ideas upon many matters render him a very desiraiblemember-of Parliament, if only for the "relief fhatf' his speeches give to. the prosaic tedium of the generality of Parliamentary debates,-? .There are matiy things about the member for 'Auckland that we admire," for, though eccentric in his manner and his ideas upon sopie matters, he is a thoroughly ! conscientious and honest member of Parliament, bnt we can 'scarcely' think that he is" in;:earnest in his latest moye, npr; -eap we fhyik tbafcithV House will treat his ously. It will probably be accepted as one of the doctor's jokes, and, after occasioning some amusement for members, be quietly rejected.
