According to the Wellington correspondent of the Lyttelton Times, the rumor of Mr. Sheehan joining the present 'Ministry has been revived, many considering the alliance highly probable. It is Said that the.Hon. Mr. Bryce,' by no means-a strong- man, is tired of office, and heartily sick of this Native; Department. That he would gladly retire into private life is generally believed, and the fact that of late Mr. Sheehan has been under' direct Whitaker influence—that he has indeed been acting as an agent of the Auckland speculators in large land-transac-tions—seems to give some color of probability to the report that, should Mr. Bryce- retire, he will once more become Native Minister. We can scarcely believe that there, is much probability of the report being verified. Mr. Sheehan has forfeited the confidence that was reposed in him when, he was an hOnesfcand thoroughgoing supporter of theXiberaj party. Besides, we pan scarcely think that" the members of the " pure, 'moral Ministry would.receiv'e into'their fold the best abused I member' of the Grey administration. But who "can tell?. Strange things iin these degenerate days, and even the dear lambs who at present Benches might not object to receive the&rey wolf amongHt. them, provided.they.:cotjld thereby, turn a powerful opponent:,into! a strong;supporter.. . j
