DEPARTURE OF MR. F. D. HOLDSWORTH.
On Saturday next Mr. J. D. Holdsworth, who has for many years held the position of officer in charge of the Oamaru Telegraph Office, will take his departure for New Plymouth, to which place he has been transferred. During; the many years Mr. Holdsworth has been in Oamaru he has earned and maintained the good will of all with whom he has been brought into contact, and universal regret will be expressed at his removal. That Mr. Holdsworth has merited the good will of the officers in his department was fully evidenced last evening, when the staff met and presented him with a handsome gold chain and locket as a token of their esteem and regard. The presentation was accompanied by the following testimonial : Mr. F. D. Holdsworth— Sir, —We, the undersigned members of l your staff, desire to express our deep regret at your projected departure from amongst us. In so doing it is our greatest wish that you may long be spared to enjoy the good*will of all your fellow men with whom you may come in contact. We beg of you to kindly accept this chain and locket as a small token of the esteem and regard in which you are held by us, both as our officer-in-charge and as a private gentleman. Wishing Mrs. Holdsworth, yourself, and family every happiness and prosperity in the future, we remain, [Here follow the signatures of the staff.] Mr. Holdsworth suitably replied, thanking the staff for their presentation and testimonial, and for the kindly feeling expressed towards him. He assured them that it afforded him the highest satisfaccion to find that he possessed the good will of the staff.
