NGAPARA PUBLIC SCHOOL.
(FEOM OUR OWN CORKESPOXDENT.) Noafara, December 20. The annual examination of the scholars by the School Committee took place yesterday, and was in every way a gala day for the pupils. The schoolroom was very tastefully decorated with flowers and overgreens, the work of the children, assisted by their teacher, Mr. W. H. Walker, and everything and everybody had a holidaylike appearance. A number of ladies and "entlemcn were presoni, bnsidos the members of the School Committee and the friends of the children. Mr. T. Reid, the Chairman of the School Committee, undertook the onerous duty of examiner, and expressed great pleasure at finding that the children had so much advanced since he hut had the pleasure of questioning them. He also paid a very high compliment to the teacher for bringing them up to the mark in so short a space of time. Mr. W. H. Walker, in acknowledging the compliment, said that he was very glad to say that the Committee and himself worked very well together, and he was very happy that there was no cause for complaint on either side. During the day the children sang some songs very nicely, notable among them being " Rin j the bell watchman" and " Tramp Tramp," concluding with the National Anthem. Mrs. Atkinson gave a valuable thimble as a present to the most popular girl in the school, to be decided by the boys, and which ultimately fell to the share of Miss Jessie Leith. After the examinations were concluded, Mr. Walker, in a few appropriate
remarks, dismissed the school for two weeks, and the children and visitors having adjourned to the playground a scramble took place for cakes and sweetmeats, &c., which brought to a close a very enjoyable day.
