POLITICAL INTELLIGENCE.

o (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, July 31. It is understood now that the Opposition will not grant more than two months' supplies, and will put such restrictions upon the Loan Bill that the present Government will be unable to. avail themselves of it in any way until next session. It is understood that Mr. Reeves, M.H.R. for the Grey Valley, has been asked to stand for Collingwood. (from the otac.o daily times' correspondent.) ■ Wellington. July 31. An Opposition caucus was held this morning, to consider the situation. A general feeling was expressed that it would be extremely impolitic to oppose granting supplies or the passage of a Loan Bill before a dissolution took place. Some members, however, urged that a clause should be inserted in the Loan Bill preventing any portion of the five millions being dealt with, raised, or hypothecated in any way until the new Parliament met. No formal resolution was passed, but practically it was decided not to oppose the Loan Bill or the granting of supplies, and the probability is that everything will be over by Tuesday next.

It is reported that the Bank of New Zealand has, in reply to an inquiry, informed the G.overnment of its inability to advance about L 150,000 in anticipation of the new loan when authorised.

A well-founded report is circulated that Sir George Grey has intimated his willingness to retire from the leadership of the Liberal party immediately tha success of the Liberal policy, especially triennial Parliaments and the extension of the franchise, is secured.
