PARLIAMENT.
Wellington, August 1. In the Legislative Council yesterday, after formal business was disposed of, the Colonial Secretary made a statement announcing the political situation. He deemed it unadvisable in tl--.' present state of affairs to proceed wi 1 :!: business, and proposed an adjournment till Tuesday. The Hons. Messrs. Warwhouso and Miller said it was der r v:iMe that Colonel Wliitmore should state iVm reasons given by Ministers to his Excellency for granting a dissolution in the present state of parties and the country. The Colonial Secretary said it would be unprecedented to put Ministers' confidential advice on the be done without the Governor's consent. The New Zealand Law Societies Bill (Hon. Mr. Hart) was read a first time. A motion by Mr. Waterhouse on the ,f tl.o F »jinont of at Land Tax appeal cases was postponed. The Council adjourned till Tuesday.
