PUBLIC MEETING AT WAIMATE.
A public meeting was held in the Oddfellows' Hall last night, to take into con- | sidcration the advisability of dividing the County of Waimate. The members for Deep Creek andMakikihi ridings addressed the meeting at some length, and explained that their position in the County Council was a thoroughly ridiculous one, for, as 1 things were at the present time, they were simply out-voted in any measure they proposed. Under these circumstances they could not got any money voted for works to be executed in tlieridmgs they I represented, "vvliilc tlie clique in the Council, known as the " Lees and Moore" i party, could vote away thousands of pounds for making roads in the Hakateramea district. They had, therefore, come to the conclusion that the omy ay to get justice done them would be to have the County divided. Several ratepayers addressed the meeting, and a resolution was passed to the effect that a deputation wait upon the Council, to remonstrate against the unfair manner in which the Deep Creek and Makikihi ridings were being treated; and, in the event of not wetting any satisfaction by such means, steps be taken to have the county divided.
