NORTH OTAGO RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The competition for the prizes in the second match not having been concluded until after five o'clock last evening, we were unable to publish the scores in our last issue. The shooting in this match does not call for any particular comment. Yol. R. Harding, of No. 1 Company, and Yol. D. K. Rhodes, of Otepopo, headed the list with 72 each. Both men shot very steadily throughout, but Vol. Harding is especially deserving of praise for liis good, steady. scoring. In the first match he took the second prize, with a score equal to that of Q.-M. Sergeant King, who obtained the first, and in the second match he secured the first prize. For the second time he headed the list for aggregates, and became the absolute owner of the Ladies' Challenge Belt, having won it twice in succession. Q. -M. Sergt. King, who fired well at the commencement of the competition fell off terribly -at the two last ranges —a fact which to some extent may be attributed to the great amount of work he had to perform as Secretary, and which must have interfered with his shooting. Sub-Lieut. Morris maintained his reputation by taking the third place in the aggregates. Captain M'Corkindale came next, but had he fired up to his usual form at the final ranges he should have been nearer to the winner. It is pleasing to notice that civilians are to be found who can hold their own with most of the Volunteer marksmen, Messrs. Harbridge and Rule occupying the fifth and sixth places. Many of the best shots in Oamaru and Otepopo followed Q.M. Sergt. King's example, and fell off terribly in the last match* Twenty competitors I came forward for the Consolation Match, which was not finished until it was almost | dark.
