WAIAREKA ROAD BOARD.
A special meeting of this Board was held on Saturday afternoon, when there were present Messrs. Evans (in the chair), Jackson, Gilchrist, T. Reid, Todd, and Rainforth. Mr. Oliver (Engineer) was also present. A claim was submitted by Mr. William Fenwick for LSOO as compensation for land taken for a road line at the head of Chelmer-street.
After some discussion, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Gilchrist, seconded by Mr. T. Reid, " That this Board does not admit the claim of Mr. William Fenwick for the sum of LSOO sterling for land taken for roadliue from section 31, block IV. .Oamaru District,but that the claimant be offered Ll5O as full compensation for the land so taken."
It was also resolved, "That the Solicitor V.e instructed to give effect to the foregoing resolution, and that the Clerk advise Mr. Fenwick of the oiler, and state that the Board will erect the fencing." A letter read from Messrs. Haggitt Bros, and Bront, inquiring if any steps had been taken to close the old road line (in Whitstone) to the north of section 28, block 111., Oatnaru District, was referred to the Engineer to report at the next meeting. Permission was granted to Mr. H. Wallace to temporarily close the road line between blocks 11. and 111., Oamaru District, for three weeks, during the construction of a culvert.
The Engineer having reported upon the road at Mr. Mitchell's farm, it was decided to call for tenders for its formation on the surveyed track. Mr. Dann, the ranger, was empowered to issue summonses against persons allowing their stock to stray on the roads in Ngapara, Teaneraki, and. Weston. Messrs. Gilchrist and Evans were appointed a Finance Committee. A number flf accounts were passed for payment, and the Board rose.
