OAMARU HOSPITAL.

The first meeting of the new Committee of the Oamaru Hospital took place last evening, when there were present—Messrs. T. H. Brown (Chairman), Steward, Dunn, Slirimski, Lemon, Headland, Paterson, Christie, M'lntosh, Townsend, Mainland, Montagu, and Church (Secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting leving been read and cor armed, the Visiting Committee's report was read as follows: Oamaru, 15th Feb., 1879. To the Chairman and Committee, Oamaru Hospital. Requested by the President, the undersigned members of your old Visiting Committee, continued performing the functions of that body, until the election of a new one. They have pleasure to report that at their monthly visit of inspection, this day, to the Hospital, they found existing in buildings and. furniture a satisfactory ck-anllnees, good order, and a good state of repair. The indoor patients are four —all males.

The month's accounts, aggregating L2O Os lOd, are, as usual, submitted herewith. The undersigned have to bequeath to their successors the carrying out (already authorised as a protection from the weather (of the painting and oiling of Uie new ward. It is always a welcome duty to acknowledge gifts for either the relief, use, instruction, recreation, or amusement of patients, and in this connection the Hospital is indebted to Mrs. Clowes for a quantity of illustrated papers, and to Mrs. Shrimski, for a parcel of linen. James Paterson, D. S. Moktagu. Letters were read from Drs. Wait and Garland, the former accepting the position of medical superintendent, and the latter consenting to act as an honorary surgeon. A letter from Dr. De Lautour declining to act in a like capacity was also read. Messrs. Headland (convener), Christie, and Dunn were appointed a Visiting Committee for the quarter. Mr. Edwards was chosen chemist for the next six months.

The following tenders for supplies were accepted :—Coal, Mr. J. Orr, Newcastle, L2 12s, and Shag Point LI 14s ; milk, Mr. J. C. Black, 3f d per quart ; meat, Mr H. Fry, 3i-d per lb; groceries, Messrs. Bailie and Humphrey , medical comforts, Messrs. Spence and Bee. Some accounts having been passed for payment, the Committee rose.
