A public meeting under the auspices of the anti-Chinese League, held to-day, passed resolutions urging the Government to legislate to prevent the influx of Chinese intolhe Colony. (jirEciAL to press association). Sydxet, January 31. In the cricket match Bathurst Eighteen v. English Eleven, the former are all out for 47. only one reaching double figures. The English team in their first innings made 220, L'lyett and Penn making 32 each. Pleuro-pneumonia has appeared among the cattle in the Narrabri district. The heat in the interior is terrific. At Ni-.ss.inia it is 125 in the shade. Fourteen sudden deaths have occurred there in ten days. They are ascribed to the temperature. Brisbane, January 31. Baker Martin attempted suicide. He tied two bars, each 141bs, round Id's body, and walked into the river. He was dragged nut by some boys in a boat. Melbourne, January 31. John Thomas Smith had an immense funeral. There are numerous candidates for his seat in the Assembly. Severe sunstrokes have been reported recentlv.
