WELLINGTON. November 20. The Hon. Mr. Sheehan, accompanied by Dr. Hector, will proceed north to-morrow to meet Rewi. It is stated that they will arrange to see To Whiti regarding the Hiroki affair, and settle respecting the coming native meeting in March next. Sir George Grey left to-day in the Hinemoa for Kawau.
Mr. Oliver Wakefield, Under-Secretary for the (Jo dfields, has also left for an official visit to the Thames.

Mr. Batkin, of the Treasury-, has been appointed assistant-controller and auditor, while Mr. Gavin takes Mr. Batkiu's place as accountant of the Treasury. Mr. Iteywood is made accountant umkr the Land Tax Department, of which Mr. Sperry is the chief commissioner. Mr. M'Lean, provincial auditor, is appointed to the siib-conimissionership of Auckland. Mr. Watson, Government auctioneer, has been appointed sub-com-missioner of Otago. Mr. Mickay, Commissioner of Native Reserves, has been appointed sub-commissioner at Nelson. The valuation under the Land Tax Act will begin early in December, and it is understood that everything will be ready for enforcement of the Act in January. ♦ CHRISTCHURCH. November 21.
Another boar-garden scene took place in the City Council last evening, when the Mayor and Councillors Wilson and lek were the principal parties concerned. The lie was freely given and taken ; ami Councillor Wilson, when addressing the Mayor, said, " Oh, well, you are not much."
It has been resolved to construct a new bridge over the river, the probable cost of which will bo L! 300.
Mr. John Bryan, well known as a theatrical agent, will shortly visit New Zealand with Wybert Reeve, the comedian. The nominations for Mayor have closed. Only two candidates were present—the Mayor and Councillor Ick. A man named Charles Morgan committed suicide last evening in a shanty in the rear of Collins' Hotel by hanging himself. Great determination was shown by deceased in carrying out his object. The cause of the rash act is not known. A saw mill on the South Town Belt, belonging to Messrs. Montgomery & Co., was totally destroyed by fire this morning. The lire originated through lighted shavings blowing about when the tires were being made. Insurance on the property is LIOOO in the Standard. AUCKLAND.^ November 20. The settlers of Whangarei propose to give a reception to Sir George Grey. Mr. Teschemaker, M.TI.R. for Gladstone, died this morning at Wellington. • NELSON. November 21. Messrs. Curtis and Sharp, M.H.R.'sfor Nelson City, addressed their constituents last night, and received votes of thanks and confidence, especially in reference to their action in connection with the railway. Mr. Sharp announced his intention of resigning on account of his intended temporary absence from the Colony.
