Lord Beaconsfield, speaking at the Lord Mayor's banquet, regarded the*invasion of India as impossible. As to the Berlin Treaty, be said the Ministry believed all the signatory Powers intended to enforce the Treaty, but the time had elapsed for its being fulfilled. At any rate England was resolved to maintain the Treaty by all the force at its command.
