Late London telegrams state that the reply of the Ameer is both definite and inso-< lent in tone, and it is considered improbable lie will attempt to defend Candahar, though it is believed he possesses 72 battalions of infantry and 25 regiments of cavalry, all armed with modern weapons, and 250 guns.
