THE WALTER A. WOOD HARVESTER.

The agents for the Walter A. Wood aelf-binding harvester have received by tho recently -delivered. San Francisco mail tlio following report of a public trial: — Tho Committee, selected to decide tho merits of self-binders at a held trial upon tho Wills Far in, three and a half miles west of Pittslield, 111., and under tho direction and management of tho Pike County Agricultural Society, would beg leavo to report that six binders were entered, viz., M'Cormick, Osborne, Wood, Marsh, St. Paul, and Buckeye. The question being, which binder shall the farmer use to save all kinds of grain in the best condition, the cheapest, the least labor to himself and team, and the least outlay for wire and repairs, and for the greatest durability i We iirsfc went around about 15 acres of light standing wheat with each machine, and each machine did fair work in almost every particular, and wo wore well pleased with

nearly all the machines, and think some slight failures of some of the machines were due more to the inexperience of the operators than to any fault of the machines. Wo then went into an uneven, irregular shaped, four-acre field of tall and somewhat tangled wheat. Most of the machines cut and elevated the grain very well, but failed to bind and deliver the sheaves in proper condition. We, i therefore, without disparagement to any, would recommend that the first premium be awarded to the Wood, the second to the M'Connick, and the third to the Osborne. _______
