Prisoner was remanded till Thursday next." CUTTING AND WOUNDING. Frank Hansal, alias Thomson, was brought up on remand charged with stabbim/Andrew Henderson, at Papakaio, on tin- 12th inst. They worked together in the Prince Albert Coal Mine at Awamoko. Prisoner, Thomas Baker, and witness started for home on the 12th inst., and

had proceeded about a mile alosgpfciie road prisoner said, " Stop and hareadiink," and produced aome brandy, of which Baker and witness partook, but witness could not say whether prisoner had any or not. They then sat down, and witness told prisoner that he had been informed that he said he had received inferior food at his (witness's) place. Prisoner denied having said so, and called witness a liar. This led to more words, and witness and prisoner had a scuffle, and it was during this that witness was stabbed. Witness knocked prisoner down, and was proceeding to strike him again when Baker rushed in between them. Witness then discovered that he had been stabbed in the left, groin, but with what he could not say, as he did not see a knife in prisoner's hatid. Baker and witness then proceeded to Mrs. Willis', leaving prisoner by himself. Thomas Baker gave corroborative evidence. This was the whole of the evidence. His Worship committed prisoner to take his trial at the sitting of the District Court, to be held on the 16fch prox. GAMBLING. Grace Suart, proprietess of the North Otago Hotel, was charged with unlawfully allowing gambling in her licensed house on the 20th inst. Mr. O'Meagher appeared for the defendant. Constable Hawksworth deposed that he w»3 passing the hotel t on the 20th, about 12.15 ; he heard some persons talking inside. He went inside and looked into the bar-room, where he saw four men playing at cards. He could not say what game they were playing at. He did not see any money on the table. The bar was closed at the time. This was all the evidence for the prosecution, and his Worship remauded the case.
