BILLIARD EXHIBITION.
ROBERTS V. SHORTER. The second and final exhibition of billiard playing between Messrs. Roberts and Shorter, which took place last evening at the Royal Hotel Saloon, was patronised by a large number of people. T e first game played was one of 750 up ; the champion conceding his opponent 175 points. Roberts gradually drew -upon Shorter, and when the latter was at 575, by a well played break of 91. drew slightly ahead. Roberts did not maintain the lead long, Shorter making several breaks of between 20 and 50, and once more gaining a good advantage, eventually scoring out, while Roberts was at (57(5. The play in this game did not appear to to us of so brilliant a nature ;is that on the previous evening. Some very beautiful shots were made during the progress of the game, and several good breaks were recorded. For this he was Io.K.Uy cheered. He also made some nicely played breaks of 59, 4(3. (including fourteen spot strokes), and others ranging from 30 to 40. Five games of pyramids were then played. Shorter receiving one hall. Of these Shorter won three, thus -winning the whole of the matches played with Roberts in Oamaru. The order in which the g.-!ines were play- d was —lst, Robert*. 9 bails to G ; 2n-V Shorter. 8 to 4 ; 3rd. Shorter, 8 to G; 4th. Roberts, 10 to 1 ; 5-h, Shorter, 9to 1. In the fourth game Roberts obtained nine balls in succession, and in the fifth Shorter got eight successively, both players being applauded for these efforts.
