The Evening Mail. FRIDAY, JULY 12, 1878.

The case P. Aitchison v. the Waitaki County Council had been adjourned until Thursday. The County Council at its meeting yesterday afternoon voted LSO as a donation t-> the Waitaki County Acclimatisation Society. This was done in response to a letter from Mr. Connell, Secretary of the Society, applying for a grant in aid of its funds. Thc writer stated that the Society had joined the Dnncdin Society in bringing out game to the Colony, in which undertaking a large sum of money would be expended, and that a considerable snm had been expended in rewards for the destruction of sl)3gs. 'The Oamnrn Christys have announced their intention of giving a concert on Tuesday evening next, the proceeds of which are to "be devoted to the funds of the Hospital. We have hail the pleasure of Freeing a draft of the programme, which will, we understand, be distributed to-morrow, imd we think that it is just what will please the public. The troupe numbers about fifteen performers, amongst whom are several instrumentalists, the remainder being vocalists of no mean standard.

Messrs. fiibhs and Wanabrough. yesterday afternoon, waited upon the County Council, as deputation from the managers of the Cemetery, to ask for grant in aid of the Cemetery funds. Mr. Gibbs explained that the managers were greatly in want of funds. They had previously received some grants from the Provincial Council, but now tlu-y had no funds to full back upon but the hririal fees. By the tAd of these and the kindness of several gentlemen, they had been enabled to carry on. A house had been t-reeted for the st-xton, the money for whhh w.-ts raised by mortgage, the interest i n which absorbed nearly the whole of the fe"s received. The managers were now in a tix. They had no endowment- no income, in fact, to meet the expenditure but the fees. The plantations wire going to rack and ruia for want of attention, and it was simply ; impossible for the sexton to overtake the : work. '1 he gates were also out of repair, i and they, in common with the sexton's cottaue, stood sadly in need of a coat of paintT He mentioned that the Municipal Council had offered the services of the Corporation gardener and one man for a shortperiod. Since the abolition of the Provinces they had nobody to look to but the Council, which body, to all intents and purposes took the place of the old institution. They therefore felt that in coming before the Council they had a strong claim upon their consideration. Some discussion took place upon the matter, bat eventually the following resolution was adopted :—"That the Council give the sum of LBO in aid of the Cemetery, on condition that the MunJcipaJ Council give a like amount."

The Early Closing Association met at Cordon's Rooms, Tees-street, last evening.
