WAITAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The following is the conclusion of our report of the meeting of the Council held vesferdav ;

Mr. Gilchrist having written stating that lie would accept LlO for laud required for road purposes at Gibson's Crossing, and all expenses to be paid by the Council, Messrs. Duncan and Johnston were appointed to wait on Mr. Gilchrist to endeavor to obtain a. reduction of the amount.

The Hon, M. Holmes wrote pointing out the bad state of the beach road at AllDay Buy, and strongly urging the necessity for a bridge over that stream. The Engineer stated that the bridge would cost about L 290, and it was agreed to refer the matter to the Otepopo Road Board, in order to ascertain what proportion of the cost that Board would contribute.

Mr. Oliver again wrote with reference to a bridge at Corriedale, and offered to pay half the cost if the Council contributed the other half. The Council declined to accede to the request. Mr. P. Aitchison having sued the Council for Lin for damage done to his property through the overflow of the Waikonra Creek, it was decided to defend the action. Tite Engineer's report was read.

On the motion of Mr. Duncan, seconded by Mr. Johnston, it was resolved, "That the roads to the Uxbridga and Awamoko Junction Railway Stations, taken over by the County, be gravelled, and that tenders be called for the work, to be in by next meeting." The Inspector reported at. some length upon the works in progress and others required, and the following actions were taken :—The question of gravelling the road through Ngapara was held over. The Inspector's request for authority to prosecute persons for leavinggorse or anyother clthris in the ditches on roads was referred to the Solicitor for his opinion.

It was agreed that the contractor for the Port Moeraki road be granted an extension of time of six weeks in which to complete his contract, An application for a slaughtei-house licensefrom Mr. Gibson, butcher, Pukeuri Point, was granted.

On the motion of Mr. Murcott, seconded by Mr. Duncan, it was resolved, "That all that portion of Shrewsburystreet lending from the Main North Road ' o the Hampden railway station bo declared a County road, in accordance with section S8 of the Public Works Act, and that tenders be called, to be in by next, meeting, for forming and gravelling the above road."

The following tenders were accepted : W. J. Williams, footpath at Town Boundary (Lfil 12s) ; S. Rnsbatch, gravelling 80 chains road at Papakaio (L 256). Mr. Murcott. gave notice that he would move at the next meeting that grants be made in aid of the Hampden and Otepr.po cemeteries. Mr. Thomson gave notice to move at next, meeting—That, in the event of any private railway company using the Upper Vi'aitaki Bridge, this Council be refunded one half of its contribution.

Leave of absence was granted the Chairman during the session of Parliament.

Accounts to the amount of L 705 14s were passed for payment, and the Council rose.
