NORTH OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

The Committee of this Association met 3 - esterday. Present—Messrs. Connell (in the ehiiir), Young, Aikenhead, Donaldson, Mitchell, Menlove, Little, Jack, Hedley, Gemmell, Henderson, and Steward. Mr. Jtonayne and Mr. Grant wrote, tendering for the right of grazing on the Association's show ground. It was resolved that no action be taken regarding the same.

In reply to a communication from the Association, the Secretary of the Clutha Society intimated that members of that

Society would favor the formation of a National Society provided Balclutha be one of the places at which its shows are held, and that the local shows were, not interfered with. Mr. Makeig, Secretary of the Canterbury Association wrote forwarding copies of resolutions passed by the Committee of that Association —1. Concurring with the proposal to form a National Society ; 2. Setting'forth the objects of such a, Society, and stipulating that it should not in any way interfere with the organisation and management of existing Societies ; 3. That delegates from the Dunedin, North Otago, Timaru, and Canterbury Societies should meet and draw up a constitution and code of regulations for the proposed Association ; 4. That the head-quarters of the Society should be in Christchurch, and that the New Zealand Country Journal should be the official paper of the Society ; 5. That the first show should not be hold before 1579. It was resolved to further discuss the question at the next meeting, to be held on the 25th inst. Mr. Hedley reported, on behalf of the Show-ground Committee, that he had visited Mr. Holmes property, and that of Mr. Shrimski, at Deborah Town. The Committee were of opinion that the Society should purchase a freehold. Mr. Shrimski asked Ll2O per acre for his land, and would not divide the block. The Chairman said that a piece of land opposite Deborah Town could be obtained from Mr. Holmes on lease for 21 years. After considerable discussion, it was resolved, "That the General Committee inspect the pieces of land reported upon by the sub-committee, and any other sites which may in the meantime be offered, with a view of fixing up m the most suitable area for a new show-ground, the Committee to assemble on Tuesday, 23rd inst., at 11 a.m., the Secretary to procure a conveyance ;" also, that Mr. Holmes be written to, asking on what terms he would sell 20 acres of land near Deborah Town. After the passing of a number of accounts, the Committee proceeded to revise the prize list, and the meeting adjourned with a vote of thanks to the Ch;:'"imUl.
