OAMARU HOSPITAL.
The regular monthly meeting of the Committee of this institution was held last evening at the Secretary's office. There were present: Messrs T. XL Ih'oun (in the chair), Morris, Headland, Blackburn, Dunn, Wilson, Paterson, Mainland, Townsend, and Kerr.
The minute;} of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward and inward correspondence read.
The Treasurer's statement was read and received.
The following report from the Visiting Committee was read :
Damaru, itith April, IS7S. To the President and Conr.nitteo of the Oamaru Hospital. Centlemen, —Your Visiting Committee have to report that they visited this institution on Friday and Saturday, the 12th and 13th April ; that they went over the building, and. found everything well and nicely kept, and in perfect order. Your Visiting Committee wou]d sjroiigly rceomiiiend the iqllov.-iug additions being made to the premises, namely : 1. The vacant space adjoining the coalshed at the back of the kitchen to be built upon, and thus secure sleeping accommodation for the servant. 2. That the southern wing hi? extended froiu the present \yali westwards. This would provide extra accommodation for the males, and leave the southern wing entirckfor females, iu cases of emergency. There are at present 10 cases in the ITosj pital—namely, 3 females and 7 males, all of whom appear to be progressing favorably. Your Committee have also to report that they have found it necessary to appoint an assistant to the matron at a salary uf L4O per annum. We have examined the Hospital accounts for the mopth, and found them correct. Al#x. Kerr, JAMps Pateksox, H. Blackburn e, Visiting Committee. On the motion of Mr. Headland, seconded by Mr. Dunn, it was. resolved.— -'That the Yisiting Coramitcee be instructed to tako the necessary steps to provide the required accommodation for j the servant at a cost not to exceed L 18."
On the motion of Mr. Headland, seconded by Mr. Blackburne, it was resolved, —"That the Treasurer, Vice-Pre-sidentj and Mr. R. Wilson be requested to draw np a plan of the accommodation proposed to be added—say, the large ward for 10 patients, along with an estimate of the cost—the same to be laid before the next usual meeting." The accounts, as certified to by the Visiting Committee, were passed for payment, and, after some discussion upon several matters, the meeting terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman.
