SPORTING NOTES.

By Tim Whifflee,

Several of the horses have now arrived from Dunedin, and some good work maybe anticipated at the course to-morrow morning. Templeton and Titania came on from Hampden last evening in a cattle box. I had not an opportunity of seeing Mr. Ray's horses, but I am told both are looking well, and none the worse for their hard work in Dunedin or the journey. They took up their quarters in Mr. Shalders' boxes at the course this morning. Another batch, consisting of Unknown, Banjo, Shillelagh, and Malabar I arrived by the train this morning. lam informed that the favourite Ariel and Foul Play v\ill arrive this evening. Longlands is not coming, Mr. Redwood having determined to send him on to Christchurch. I hear that Fishhook will positively put in an appearance, and is expected to arrive this evening. His arrival will no doubt cause a considerable amount of interest. Bide-a-Wee and Maritmia are also coming from the North, and will be hereto-night or to-morrow ; but it is currently reported that Mireille is not coming. Mr. Walters informs me that i is two horses, Hippocampus and Izaak Walton, will reach Oamarn to-mor-row evening. Several of the bookmaking fraternity arrived by the steamer to-day? There is no change in the betting market to note. Ariel still holds the pi-ide of place, and has been taken pretty freely in doubles with Foul Play, Mireille, Titania. Izaak Walton, and others, the best odds obtainable on the double— N.O.T.C. Haudicap and Tradesmen's—beimr 20 to 2.
