NORTH OTAGO COURSING CLUB.

The regular monthly meeting of the Committee of the North Otago Coursing Club was held at the County Council Chambers this morning, There were present—The Hon. M, Holmes, President (iji the chair), Messrs. Menlove, Hedley, R-onayne, Lintott, Steward, and Hay (Hon. Secretary). The President opened the proceedings by expressing his thanks to the Committee for electing him as the first President of the Club. He said that coursing was one of the most pleasant recreations, and was, he thought, superior to horse racing ; at any rate coursing was free from the drawbacks which attended horse racing. He concluded by stating that he would present a cuo of tlie v-ahte of LpO to be competed for at one of the coursing meetings'of the Club. The minutes of the last meeting of the Committee were read and confirmed.

The Seoretary (Mr. Hay) intimated that he would have to resign the position, as he was about to leave the district.

The resignation was accepted, and on the motion of Mr. Mr. Hedley, seconded by Mr. Steward, Mr. Ronayne was elected Hon. Secretary. A vote of tbniika was unanimously accorded to Mi'-, Hay for the manner in which he had performed the duties of Secretary.

The question of appointing a member of the Committee in the place of the late Mr. Wheatlej', and also of the advisableness of altering the date of the July Coursing meeting to the 9th of the month, in order not to clash with the sitting of Parliament, were postponed until this day week, when a general meeting of the Committee will be held.

The programmes for the three coursing meeting to be held during the season were considered and accepted. The following are the events for the three meetings :

Opening Meeting,—An All-aged Stakes, to be run for on May 21 and following day.*, for 10 all-agod greyhounds, the bond fide property of members of the olub, at L;> 3s each, with 1.25 added money. "Winner to receive 1.35 ; second dog, Liu ; two dogs, L(j each ; and four dogs, L 3 each. President's Mekttxg. Awam<>a Cup, to l)e run for on June IS and following days, for all-aged greyhounds, the bond fide, property of members of the club, at L 5 3s each. Winner to receive L4O, and a cup value LSO, the gift of the President, the Hon. M. Holmes : second dog, L3O : two dogs, LI 5 each ; "Winners of two courses, L 7 each ; winners of one course, L 3 each. Waterloo Meeting.—The Waterloo Cup, to bo run for on July and following days, for 32 all-aged greyhounds, at Ll2 10s each. Opeii to all members of clubs whose annual subscription is not loss than LI. Winner to receive LI3O and a silver collar, presented by the club ; second dog, L 6's ; two dogs, L3O each ; four dogs, Lls each ; and eight dogs, HO each. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Ohristchurch Coursing Club, with reference to the appointment of a judge at the meetings, and asking what steps the Club had taken, or intend taking, in the matter. The writer also suggested the various Clubs) might cooperate in appointing a good man to act as a judge for the whole of the Clubs. It was decided to postpone consideration of the matter until the special meeting, the Secretary in the meantime to write to the Christchurch Club for further information.

The following gentlemen were ballottcd for, and elected members of the Club : J. D. ICett (Palmerston), G. M'Gavin (Dunedin), M. Sherwin (Hampden), R. Richardson, J. Barraclough, G. Jones, G. L. Longford, T. Thomson, g, A, Bristol (Timaru), W. T, Neilson. (Timaru), Boyd, Thomson (Teniuka), G. R. Howden (Dunedin), and P. H. Blakesley.

On the motion of Mr. Steward, seconded by Mr. Lintott, the President was asked to forward a request to his Excellency the Governor to become Patron of the Club. A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to the President for his gift of a cup and for the manner in which he had promised to promote the welfare of the Club.
