THIS DAY. (Before T. W. Parkkk, Esq., 1t.J1.) FORGKKV A"ND TJTTEttINO Te Maiharoa, alias Charles Mayro, was charged with haying forged and uttered a certain altered cheque, the alteration consisting of the sum being changed from L2 Bs. Gd, to L2 12s. 6<L, with intent to defraud. The accused denied the charge. On the application of Sub-Inspector Smith, who appeared for the prosecution, the prisoner was remanded till Tuesday next. WIFE DESERTION. Charles Townsend was charged on rer mand, with having neglected to comply with an order made by the Resident Ma-1
gistrate on the 28th May last to pay the weekly sum of LI 16s. towards the maintenance of his wife, Marie Louisa Townsend, and family.—His Worship granted a remand to afford the accused time to obtain sureties for the regular payment of the money. The accused was again brought up later in the day, and sentenced to six months* imprisonment with hard labour.
