SPECIAL CABLEGRAM.
FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. LATEST WAR NEWS, Dunedjn, February 2. The following is a special cablegram to the Star: — London, January 23. The Goyernment informed the Tory members that they intended to protect Constantinople and. Gallipoli. They will probably ask for a war vote immediately. January 24. The Russians are rapidly nearing Gallipoli. The Government announced a large supplimentary naval and military credit. Lords Derby and Carnarvon have resigned. "The Mediterranean fleet has been ordered to defend the Gallipoli lines. January 25. Six millions have been asked for by the House of Commons. - Orders have been issued to stay proceedings regarding fleet, in consequence of Prussian communications. CRITICAL SITUATION IN ENGLAND. Dunedin, February 2The Star has received the following cablegram from Sydney : The Government have received a cable message announcing Ministers' resignation. There is intense excitement. A war vote was asked for. The Russians are within 50 miles of Gallipoli.
