OAMARU SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

The quarterly meeting of the above; Committee was held at the Secretary's ofHce last evening. ThiTo were • resent — Messrs. Gibbs (in the chair). Fleming, Clowt s, Falconer. Barclay, Evans, Hislop, and Hardy (Secrel.-iry). MINCJ'KS, ETC. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting and special meeting were read and continued, and the outward correspondence read and approved. EXTENSION OF HOLIDAYS. Miss Cook wrote applying for an extension of her holidays on the ground of her recent severe illness. The request was acceeded to. RESIGNATIONS. Mr. J. Thornton wrote tendering his resignation of the Rectorship of the Grammar School, stating that he bad accepted an appointment in the North Island, and asking to be released from his present duties as early as possible. Mr. Fidler also wrote tendering his resignation of the third mastership of the Giv.mmar School, having a.ccepted the mastership of the Wniareka School. It was resolved to accept the resignations, Messrs. Thornton and Fidler to be released from their duties as early an practicable ; and it was also decided to advertise for applications for the Rectorship and thirdmastership of the Grammar School at once. ELECTION OF COMMI' TEE. Letters were read from the Secretary of the Education Board, naming the clay on which the first election of a Committee under the new Education Act was to be held, and pointing out the mode of procedure necessary to be followed ; also dealing with several other matters. inspector's report. The reports of the Inspector of Schools (Mr. D. Petrie) on the Grammar and North Schools were read, and were of a satisfactory nature, the Inspector speaking generally in terms of praise on the progress made during the year. ANNUAL REPORT. Messrs. Clowes and Hislop, with the Secretary, were appointed to draw up a report to be presented at the annual meeting ; the report to be submitted for approval to a special meeting of the Committee, to be held on Monday next at II a.m. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
