THE HUON BELLE.
o Tlio result of the investigation of Mr. Robert Thompson, chief of the Custom < Department in Oamr.ru, was the following conclusion :—"That the master on getting clear of Kakanni should have made a point of ascertaining the exact amount of damage, and rectified it as far as practicable. From the evidence of the mato it appears that the broken part of the jib-
boom and gear was. left hanging to tlio bowsprit till the vessel's arrival at Mooraki; that botli anchors were let go foul of the jib gear, and not reaching the ground were worse than useless, and that the loss of the vessel was caused by tlio jib-boom gear not being clear of tho anchors." It appears Ihat tho damage to tho vessel is not so serious as was at first supposed. The vessel has been bilged, but tho cost of lifting her on to the stocks and repairing her would probably bo inconsiderable as compared with her value, and it is therefore likely that this will bo done. The vessel was insured in tlio Standard office for L(>00, and the wool was insured in tho National ami South British Companies' olliees for LIOOO in each. An inquiry will bo held before T. \V. Parker, Esq., on Wednesday next at Hampden.
