OAMARU GRAMMAR SCHOOL.
The distribution of prizes to the children attending the Grammar School took place tliis morning at 11 a.m,, the Mayor presiding. Over 300 scholars and iiO visitors were present. After a few introductory remarks by Mr. Thornton, showing that people still manifested interest in educational matters, as was shown from the liberal manner they had come forward with money for prises, the Mayor said the Chairman of Committee, he had no doubt, would hare been willing to have taken the chair that day would it not have seemed out of concordance with the late action of the Committee. He then spoke at some length, commenting on the misfortune that no one had—following the good example of Mr. Shrimski —given a scholarship. The prizes were then distributed, and cheers given for the Mayor, and teachers! The holidays last till five weeks from next Monday. The following is the
