Londun, October 1. The Times reports that the Australian Government were negotiating for the purchase of the Eastern Extension Company's cables from Singapore. The proposal is declared to be premature by Mr. Michie and Sir Julius Vogel. The Northumberland sailed to-day. October 2. Dr. Moriarf.y, Bishop of Kerry, is dead. The sales will conclude to-night. 295,529 bales were catalogued, and 2000 withdrawn. Foreigners took 120,000 v. Held over till next series, 72,000. The sales showed unusual steadiness throughout. The Home trade has been the main support of the market, but foreign buyers have operated more freely. Fine
parcels realised the highest May-June rates ; medium and faulty qualities somewhat lower.

Another petition has been presented against the return of Dr. McCarthy for South Gippsland. The Chimborazo mads a passage of 41 days.
Judgment has been reserved in the case of M'Oartney v. M-Cartney. - -Tne charge against the captain of the ship M'Dnff for nelgect was dismissed. Other news is unimportant.
