«, WAITAKI JOCKEY CLUB RACES. YESTERDAY. The following is the conclusiom of our report of these races : Trotting R\o - , weight 10st71bup; a handicap of 25 sovs ; distance, 3 miles. Mr. Sutherland's g g Charlie, (W. M'Kay) 1 Mr. A. Swanson's b g Tommy, agred, scratch, (M'Greiror) 2 Mr. Sutton's Mk g Darkie, aged 325 yds ; Mr. Gardiner's b g Jack, aged, 450 yds ; Mr. Paterson's ch g Nimrod, aged, 250 yds ; and Mr. Andrews' b g Ranger, aged, 140 yds; also started. Tommy passed through all his horses and appeared like winning but when entering the ropes he broke, and before he could be pulled up and again started, Charlie passed him and won by two lengths. The H vciv Selling Race of 30 sovs was won by Mr. G. M. Evans' Deception. TH S DAY. (PER PIGEON KXPRKSS.) Duntroon*. October 5, 2.40. ' Another gloiions day for racing greeted the good people of Duntroon, and as a consequence there is a large number of persons on the course, although the attendance is not so large as was the case yesterday. On the whole, the meeting may be pronounced a great success. The racing li is been very good, and so far the meeting has been marked by the total absence of any protests. The following is the result of this day's racing:— Handicap Hurdle Race, of 30 sovs ; distance, 2 miles, owr 8 flights of hurdles 3ft 3m high. Nomination, LI ; acceptance, LI. .Mr Andrews' ch g Bailio, list 4lb 1 Mr Viui. g's ch g Will-if-I-Can, lOst .. .. .. 2 Three hordes on y faced the starter for this event, and a very good ra<e ensued between Banjo and Will-if-I-can, the f'irnier proving the winner by a length. Time, 4min 30sec. Waitaki Jockey Clcb Handicap, of 100 sovs ; distance, 1J mile ; a sweep of 2 sovs, the sweep to go to the second horse ; winner of the Cup to carry 71bs jienalty. Nomination, LI ; acceptance, 1/2. Mr Leonard's b g Ridea-Wee, Sst lib.. ..1 Mr Uav's ch g Danebury, 9st 71b .. ..2 Mr Hill's b g Unknown, Sst lib .. .. 3 A splendid start was effected, the live horses getting away together. Unknown assumed the lead shortly after the start, but Bide-a-wee went up to him, and a splendid race ensued. When near the linish, Danebury's ridr-r. observing that Bide-a-wee was being pushed for the race, went up to the leaders. The linish of the race was so close between Danebury and Bide-a-wee that many people thought it was a dead heat. The judge, however, placed them iu the order givt'ii above. Maii'EN Plate, of 30 sovs : distance, 1£ mile ; weight for age. Entry, LI 10s ; open t > all horses that have not won an advertised race of 20 sovs. Mr O'Brien's b f Xantippe 1 iir M'Kcllar's b m.Flirt .. .. •• ..2 .Mr Welhvood's by The Hook .. .. .. .. 3 The favourite, Xantippe, won easily by three lengths. 4.5 p.m. Champagne Stakes, of 70 sovs; welter weight for age. A mile and a distance. Mr Ray's ch g Danebury, 10.it 01b .. .. 1 Mr O'Brien's ch g Mutti, Sst 9lb .. .. .. 2 Mr O'Brien's b f Xantippe, Sst 01b .. .. 3 Only the three horses named started, the race being a vi_-ry good one. Time : 2 min. sees. "The Stewards are deserving of every credit for the manner in which they have performed their duties, not a single hitch of any kind having occurred to mar the sport.
