MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Municipal Council was held at the Council Chambers last evening, for the purpose of the opening the tenders in connection with the construction of the Water-works. Taere were present —His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Gibbs, Mainland, Booth, Headland, Scott, Morton, and Grave.
The question having been asked ky the Mayor whether it was the wish of the Council that the tenders should be opened in Committee, or to admit the representatives of the Press and the public, it was, after discussion, resolved, on the motion of Councillor Scott, seconded by Councilor Headland, " That the tenders be opened in Committee, and that the Council resume at 9 p.m." The Council then went into Committee, and the business was conducted privately. On the Council resuming, we learned that in all 17 tenders had been opened. Of these, 10 were from Oamarii, 3 from Dnnedin, 2 from Christchurch, 1 from Wellington, and 1 from Melbourne. After discussion, it was resolved, " That the meeting be adjourned till Monday night, at 8 o'clock ; and that the Engineer consider the tenders and send in a report of them, to be considered at that meeting." The meeting then adjourned.
