DEATH BY DROWNING.
A man named James Hood, a baker, was drowned on Saturday. He was driving home from Invercargill in a buggy, in company with a man named George Cowlis, and having reached the Maori Kaik, were looking for the proper place to turn oT from the beach to the town. Hood got oft' the buggy, and saying that the light at the pilot station, on the other side of the river, was the light to the town, he went in that direction, and must have walked straight into the river. Cowlis drove to the Kaik, and came home, Nothing was seen of Hood till the body was found in the river yesterday evening. He leaves a widow and six children. At the inquest an open verdict was returned.
