MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. [Before T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M.] CIVIL CASES. P. DOOLEY V. HARRY WILLIAMS. Claim for horse hire, £2 10s. Defendant is at present an inmate of the Hospital, and was uiiabb to appear. Hearing adjourned for a month. EDWIX FIRTH V. EDWARD SINCOCK. Claim for £l3 12s. 7d. Mr. Balmer appeared for plaintiff. Defendant was not in attendance, and judgment was given by default for amount claimed and costs. E. GRAVE V. BOURNE. Original claim for £6 9s. 6J. Defendant did not app.ar. Plaintiff stated that this morning lie received a cheque for £6 Is. 6d., leaving a balance of eignt shillings and costs. Judgment for amount claimed. E. B. PEARCE V. BOARD. Claim for £1 Os. Bd. for coals delivered. Defendant put in a sot off, and produced a rec~iptud account for the amount signed by plaintiff. Plaintiff, however, explained tuac it had been obtained under the following circumstances :—Defendant called at Jus office end asked for the account. Having received it, he then said he wished it to be receipted. That was done, whereupon instead of paying £1 Os. Bd. he put down 18s., and walked oil' with the receipt. (This case was still proceeding when our reporter left.)
