NEW ZEALAND PASSENGERS,
Sydney, October 11. The passengers by the Suez mail steamer for New Zealand were—Messrs. Chafnes, Ralls, and Brabazon. AN ABSCONDER. James Ward, merchant, brought from Fiji by a detective, has been committed for trial on a charge of forging bills of lading, and an insurance policy on which he obtained £14,000. A LUCKY GIRL. A girl, named Smith, in Dreffield Workhouse, comes in for several thousand pounds left to her mother, who deserted her family several years ago, and went to New Zealand under another name. MISSING. The iron barque Baldwin, which left New Zealand in ballast for Valparaiso, in April, has not since been heard of.
