THE NORTH OTAGO TIMES ON THE WORKING CLASSES.
TO THE EI.ITOR OF THE KVENING MAIL. Sir,—l f el greatly grieved at the leading article which appeared in this mor?? ing's North Oiago Times. Now, Sir, I consider this article haj t'rown a great deal of blamg npon the unemployed of Oamarn. I tr.-ink, Sir, that it is not the duty of a paper to throw water on a drowned rat. I myself have applied to allthe contractors who are at present carrying out contracts within 10 or 12 miles of Oamarn, and the answer was :—"Want no hands." I i ave even applied to the Railway Department on several occasions, as a practical platelayer; the answer Avas ; "No work." Now, Sir, I, having beeii thirteen years in t is Colony, both in the North and South Islands, I can inform the editor of t'-e North Ota-go Times that I ave been seeking employment tlds last two months, and none could I obtain ; and further that I am no loafer. ' Now, Sir, I can turn my hand to any sort of work that I can get hold of, and I have a wife and large family to provide for. Now, Sir, I have applied to some of the contractors in Oamaru, and before I got an answer from them t ley viewed me all over the body, and then the answer ..as : "No."—l am, &c Old Practical.
