HORSE-TAMING BY ELECTRICITY.
A professional horse-tamer, named Geor-i Laycock, was brought up at the Sheffieli Police Court a few days ago, charged nil! cruelly treating *a mare, by galvanising ill His process and its effects were thus da scribed :—He attached a wire to the lessa the mare, and gave her a series of seraj electric shocks, which caused her great pail Then he fastened the electric wire to the ti| and sent a current through the system of til animal with siich force that she '' fell to ffl ground convulsed, with her eyeballs prl trading." Several witnesses were called w| declared that that they would not, upon a| consideration, allow such an experiment J be tried upon their horses. On the otra hand, scientfiic evidence was adduced to shif that the process—for which Laycock hasj patent—was not cruel when used with pro|| care to cure some vicious habit. The indj trate said, that although the operator rasa have a wish to cure the animal, he made'aj experiment a paying concern, charging : 1 admission to the grounds. He had also ffi | unnecessary cruelty by applying continKj | shocks of electricity, thereby causing'! animal more pain than the circumstances f 1 titled. On these grounds, the magistrate;! flicted a fine of £2 10s., and costs.
